Pineapple Sage
from Backwoodswife on 02/22/2015 03:38 PMThe kids got me a pot of Pineapple sage last year for Mother's day. If you haven't smelt it your missing out!! I put it right by my front door so I could touch it each time I passed it and all my family and guests were just in love with it as well! I made at least 20 cuttings from it and planted it as my back border plant, the cuttings root so quickly and it grows so fast. This is easily one of my favorite herbs! We made alot of teas with it but found when dried it looses alot of it's scent. Wondering if anyone else has used this in recipes or for any other uses? I cut one back and brought it in for the winter, and it is now coming back to life! Cant wait for spring!

Re: Gardening Kitchen Scraps - Vegetables That Will Regrow
from Backwoodswife on 02/22/2015 03:24 AMThis is alot of fun, I have a few "garbage" plants myself, and avocado seedling about 18 inches high, A pineapple top will make a really nice houseplant, it took me a few tries but if you rip off enough leaves to expose the root nodes works beautifully! My favorite is my Key lime tree, thick dark glossy leaves and covered in long thorns! The leaves can be used in Thai cooking, though I've never tried, couldn't bring myself to rip a leaf off.. Mine is about two feet tall and two years old. I drove hubby crazy about two years ago going to the supermarket just to buy things I could use as planting experiments
Speaking of supermarket planting, this is something I just did today and have had great luck in the past with,
using their herbs for cuttings! I've successfully rooted sage, thyme and mint from store bought herbs. I pottedt up a bunch of thyme in a today. I've actually had them root up faster than some of the cuttings from my garden plants, wondering if the refrigeration period brings them into "spring mode" better once planted??? Hmmm... I feel some more experiments coming on!
