Searching for eggplant
from socalgardengal on 02/25/2015 06:03 PMHi everyone,
I'm looking for some eggplant seed for my mother. She LOVES eggplant but has never grown her own. I don't have any cause I don't like it. Maybe I should try it again. Been since I was little :)
I have lots to trade... way more than listed on my trade list. No flowers though. We are in a drought so I like to be rewarded with edibles for the water use :)
Looking for these or any suggestions....
Casper
Pingtung Long
Thai Green
Udumalapet
Listada de Gandia
Rosa Bianca
Round Mauve
Thank you so much ~Christine

Re: Sweet potato recipes needed
from socalgardengal on 02/25/2015 03:07 AMI should also add that in any of these recipes you can microwave the potatoes to save time. Just poke holes in them so they don't explode :)

from socalgardengal on 02/25/2015 03:04 AM* LOADED SWEET POTATO SKINS* makes 8 skins (can be doubled or tripled)
4 medium sweet potatoes

1/4 C milk
1/4 tsp salt
Pepper to taste
1 C shredded cheese, any you like
4 bacon strips cooked til crispy and crumbled
Sour Cream and Chives for serving
PREHEAT OVEN TO 400° Clean and pierce potatoes with a fork. Bake until tender. 40-60 mins. Let cool slightly . Slice potatoes in half lengthwise. Reduce oven temperature to 375° Scoop out the flesh into a large bowl, leaving a thin layer inside the potato skin. Place the skins back on baking sheet face up. Drizzle with oil and bake 10 mins. Meanwhile, mash the potato flesh with the milk, salt and pepper until smooth and creamy. After 10 mins, remove skins from oven. Fill each skin with equal amounts of mashed sweet potato. Top with cheese. Bake until cheese is melted, about 15 mins. Remove from oven, top with crumbled bacon bits, sour cream and chives if desired.
Stores in fridge for up to 3 days. *Use regular milk or half and half for best results*

Re: GROWING PEANUTS
from socalgardengal on 02/24/2015 11:15 PMThank you Kathy for posting your growing info. It will help alot. I was going to try in Rubbermaid totes, but the laundry basket idea is great for the drainage. Do you put like some sort of weed barrier or cloth before the sand/soil mix? Do you have to stake the plants or just let them do their own thing?
